Non-residents False Applications

Postby Nevada » Fri Feb 06, 2009 11:18 am

A man and his wife both admitted to providing false information to obtain resident licenses and tags. While they continued to the end to paint themselves the victims of a "misunderstanding", they had been applying as residents for many years.

The case came to light when the man received a coveted mountain goat tag in 2006. His wife received an antelope tag the same year. During the course of the investigation, they both harvested animals, elevating the crimes to felonies if it could be proven that the tags were invalid because of their true residency status.

After many court appearances, conferences between attorneys and maneuvering the wife pled guilty to one misdemeanor in White Pine County, Nevada. She paid a $500.00 criminal fine, a $ 2,000.00 civil penalty as restitution to the state, and will have her hunting and fishing privileges revoked for a period of three years.

The husband pled guilty to one gross misdemeanor "False Information to Obtain a Big Game Tag" in Churchill County, Nevada. He paid a
$ 1,000.00 fine, a $ 5,000.00 civil penalty, a $ 3,500.00 donation to the OGT Citizen's Board, and paid an additional $ 1,000.00 in lieu of forfeiting the rifle used to kill the mountain goat. (Shortly after he became aware of the investigation in early 2007, he took the rifle to a gun shop and sold it to avoid forfeiture.) In addition, his hunting and fishing privileges will also be revoked for a period of three years.
